2 days ago, I took Zayden to ICR for an assessment. After some researched, I decided on ICR. I Can Read (ICR) provide continuous programmes designed to support children from a young age who are just starting out on their (reading) literacy journey and to empower older children who need to learn how to use phonological awareness in order to become good readers. The assessment took about 15 mins and 2 teachers were in the room with us. One teacher (Catherine) actually took out a list of word and tested him a few base on it. Zayden managed to answer some. Catherine then told me that Zayden will be suitable to be place under their PRP (Prelim Reading Programme).
Does it sound like I am a Kiasu parents? Some may feel that I am starting him off too early but personally, I know my main purpose of enrolling him. I wanted to encourage him to have the interest in reading because giving him a right foundation in his early childhood will help him in the later part of his primary school life.
I realised nowadays, many children speak good English. However, a child who speak well doesn't mean he can write well. A lot of time, a child who do well in creative writing spend time reading..and reading is one way to help a child in his writing. I believed in nurturing children.
The course fee is not cheap but I think it is worth the investment.
But of cos, I truly depend on God's grace and I believe God provides my children with wisdom. I know that as I do my part to steward them, God will do the rest because He loves us.
